Eggs in their Natural State, Watercolor by Laura Wilk

Laura Wilk Head Shot
Laura Wilk is a Connecticut artist who has lived and worked in the state for most of her professional career.  She started as a fiber artist painting on silk and now works exclusively in watercolor, primarily creating highly detailed, representational paintings.

Laura often picks her subjects by color, working in transparent paint and layers extensively to get the deep, rich color that fill her paintings.  She likes to change the mundane into the spectacular, by making her subjects radiate with light.

Most of her studies were done at the Creative Arts Workshop in New Haven, although she started in art with a Minor in Art History at New York University.  She has taught watercolor techniques at the Weston Open Learning Program and SCAN of Newtown, as well as teaching individual classes in her home.

She has had a number of solo shows and participated in many group shows in New York and Connecticut, receiving numerous awards.  Her most recent awards were from the New England Watercolor Society, SCAN, the Connecticut Watercolor Society, as well as the Richard Ochs Watercolor Award II from the Kent Art Association.  Her work has been published in Slash 12:  the Best of Watercolor and she is presently represented by the Dragonfly Gallery of Martha’s Vineyard.

Patrick Purcell, Sculptor

Patrick Purcell has been pursuing a career in sculpture for over 40 years.

His pieces include curled up concrete representations of man's best friend, large freestanding armatures of found objects, delicately balanced geometric steel constructs, and organic, earthly bronzes. There is virtually no material that Patrick has not explored intimately through sculpture.

Patrick's family has always been a source of great inspiration. Small bronze figures of lithe dancers hold delicate, sinewy arms, and dance in a state of grace and free abandon. The artist attributes Matisse as an inspiration, and initially the viewer would be lead to believe that, but there is so much more.

Through his work Patrick demonstrates his love of life. He so generously shares with us his life's work and joy, inspiring and engaging the viewer; encouraging us to dance. These works are not simply sculpture. They are gems; little precious moments in time, captured and literally bronzed, allowing us to know a life fulfilled.

Masterfully designed, created, and implemented, Patrick Purcell's award-winning work is collected and known internationally and throughout the United States. Currently, his work is being shown at the Courtyard Gallery in Mystic, Ct. and at the P.S. Gallery in Litchfield, Ct. and at the Kent Art Association in Kent, Ct.

Patrick Purcell, Master Jeweler

Patrick Purcell has been pursuing a career in jewelry for over 40 years.

As a master jeweler and sculptor his work intimately engages us through his masterful use of materials and form. Original and organic, Patrick's wearable art pieces exude sensuality. They are a manifestation of a life lived aware, open, and on the edge. Nothing is static; his work has a pulse and a breath.

His jewelry speaks to a deeper sense grounded in earthly beauty and universal truth. The artisan's hands cannot hold back the sheer ecstasy of touch. They record and recreate the moment, the life process, and the lessons.

Masterfully designed, created, and implemented, Patrick Purcell's award-winning work is collected and known internationally and throughout the United States.

Recently, Patrick has completed the G.I.A. Gemology courses on diamonds and colored stones and will become a certified Gemologist by fall, 2011.
