George Wittman, is having his first one-man exhibit,"The Four Season's of the Field" at Kent's newest gallery space, SCOTT & BOWNE, llc.
The show, comprised of over thirty new large scale oil paintings, is the culmination of his year documenting Kent's Marble Valley Farm off Rte 7, his experience, education and focus on this single well-known local organic farm was instrumental in reinvigorating his energy and technique as he began to understand the importance and immediacy of life on this 21st century farm. Inspired originally by a visit to farmer Megan Haney's farm stand, and becoming awestruck by the sheer beauty of her produce.
As the year progressed, his understanding of the effort involved in the success of this local farm, formed a desire to express in a vivid series if large scale images the buildings, fields, produce and equipment and the importance of maintaining Kent's agricultural heritage. The stories concerning the initial conservation of this farm from Bill Arnold from the Kent Land Trust, reminded Wittman that some of his favorite 19th century artist's played a huge role in the early creation of the American conservation movement. Before moving to Kent full-time in 2009, Wittman worked as a fine artist and Union Scenic artist over the last 25 years. He believes now, at 48, that he has really just hit his stride with this focused and personal group of paintings. The show will run at SCOTT& BOWNE from July 30th -September 5th.
Opening Reception: Saturday, July 30th from 4-7 pm, food and refreshments will be served.

Virginia Donavan is participating in a show at the New Century Artists Gallery on 25th Street in NYC. The show is entititled "TOGETHER" and features works by 16 Artists - curated by Basha Maryanska - Running from March 1 through the 19th.
Virginia was cited in a review for the show in Gallery & Studio Magazine’s February/March 2011 issue by Maurice Taplinger -
“... in Virginia Donovan's austere landscapes, primarily in somber earthy hues, hilly land masses suggest slumbering giants, set against pale areas of water. The quiet power of Donovan's compositions emanates from the almost sculptural weight and presence that she imparts to compositions in which the land itself, with its fluent contours, appears to ebb flow, rather than the still bodies of water, as impassive as the seemingly limitless expanses of cloudless sky.”
