The Gallery at Kent is owned and operated by the Kent Art Association and provides a home for the shows, demonstrations, and events, most of them sponsored by the Association. The spacious renovated two-story former house, situated in the center of Kent, offers ample viewing space for paintings and sculptures alike. The versatile space is also available for rent for various events. Hours and directions
The artists of KAA work in various mediums: traditional oils, watercolors, acrylics, and pastels to mixed media and sculpture. The diversity of backgrounds represented by our membership stimulates, encourages and enhances creativity.
The Kent Art Association invites fine artists and art lovers alike to join. The association includes people from a broad range of artistic genres and levels of experience, all of whom share an appreciation of art. Please consider joining us.
Throughout the year, KAA members are offered the opportunity to hang a limited selection of small pieces (two-dimensional only) on the walls of the greeting room, behind the staff desk. The Small Works display changes with each KAA show. As with regular KAA shows, all work is for sale. Artists are encouraged to display work that is priced affordably.
Similar to the ongoing Small Works show in the greeting room, KAA members have the opportunity to leave “bin work” – matted, but unframed original work. Art lovers can often find work by their favorite artists at bargain prices, or fall in love with the work of an artist whose work they are seeing for the first time browsing the bins.
The first show of the year showcases the work of students from local high schools. See the work of the next generation of artists.
The Member shows feature the work of member artists of the KAA. The five Awards of Excellence offered ensure a high caliber of art will be included. Like all KAA shows, all work is for sale.
These juried shows bookend the summer show season. Open to both members and non-members, the generous prize list of the Spring Show has always attracted excellent work. New for 2016, the Fall Show should be equally high caliber. All work is for sale.
This show provides a special opportunity for our member artists to connect with regional galleries. There will be a private viewing for gallery owners and representatives on Saturday. The show will be open to the public for the remaining three days (Sunday, Monday and Tuesday).
The President’s Show is the marquis event of the Kent Art Association. Open to both KAA members and non-members, this show boasts the richest array of awards. Submitting artists respond with their best work. If you can only attend one show during the year, you should make it this one.
KAA members can apply for juried artist status once a year. To apply, they must submit a selection of their work to be juried by current juried artist members. The selection process happens during the receiving days immediately preceding this show.
The show itself consists of work by both current juried artist members and those who have just been elected – the very best artists in KAA. There are no cash prizes for this show, but one artist is selected from each year’s show and given the privilege of a solo show during the following year’s Invitational Show. The winning artist from the previous year is featured with an entire room devoted to his or her work.
As with other KAA shows, all work is for sale.
Introduced in 2015, this exhibition showcases some of the fine work produced by regional photographers. As with traditional KAA art shows, all work is for sale.
This year, KAA will be hosting three workshops by a few of our gifted member artists. Conducted in the gallery, these multi-day programs are a great opportunity for people to learn from some of the best artists our area has to offer.
The annual meeting of the KAA is held every year on an October Saturday, typically at 1:30 pm. Interested patrons are welcome to attend.
For a number of years, the KAA gallery has hosted the Northeast Watercolor Society for their annual International Juried Show. While not a KAA show, there is significant KAA member participation in the show. See the Northeast Watercolor Society website for more information.
